The Mosque of Muhammad Ali is located inside the Citadel of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi (Saladin) in Cairo. Muhammad Ali Pasha built it on the site of Mamluk palaces and completed it in 1265 AH (1848 CE). The mosque is known as the “Alabaster Mosque” because of the alabaster cladding on its interior and exterior walls. Its twin minarets are among the tallest in Egypt, each rising about 84 meters.
